EU Commission chooses InfoCert for journal timestamping
The EC Directorate-General for Informatics (DIGIT) has selected InfoCert trust service to guarantee the legal validity of the European Union official publications
Rome, 5 September 2016 – InfoCert, part of the Tecnoinvestimenti Group and among the leading European Trust Service Providers, announces that its eIDAS certified Time Stamping service has been selected by the EC Directorate-General for Informatics (DIGIT) to guarantee the full legal validity of official publications circulated in electronic format by the EU Publications Office.
These include the Official Journal (OJ), the main source of information and legislative updates of the European Union, digitally available since 2013.
DIGIT requires the presence of qualified digital signatures on all EU official publications as well as a qualified time stamp to certify the issuing date and time of each document.
Following the entry into force of the eIDAS Regulation, DIGIT has identified InfoCert as a qualified and reliable partner to comply with the requirements of the new provisions.
Indeed, InfoCert was among the first European Certification Authorities to obtain the certification as a Qualified Trust Service Provider for the Time Stamping service and has supplied DIGIT with the trust components required for ensuring that the digital signatures used by the EU Publications Office, which also publishes on behalf of the European Court of Justice, fully comply with the new regulation.
Furthermore the European Commission will also apply InfoCert’s eIDAS qualified time-stamps to the professional certificates signed by the Internal Market Information system to support professionals in their cross border business within the EU.
“The European Commission – says Tom Vekemans, Head of DIGIT B.1 Unit (Architecture office, Consultancy, Innovation and Relationship Management) – is pleased to use the InfoCert timestamping service as one of its underpinning services, resulting in higher security and more convenience for its online activity”.
“To be chosen by DIGIT for ensuring, through our services, the legal validity of the official publications of the EU is a great source of pride for us”. – declares Danilo Cattaneo, CEO of InfoCert. “It confirms how our solutions are appreciated in Europe by the most demanding customers and boosts InfoCert position as a reference Trust Service Provider in the European Union”.
